Lori Marvel-Sundberg

Lori Sundberg, Ms. Elite Cosmos United States 2019, holds a Ph.D. in Germanic Languages and Literature from the University of Pennsylvania and currently works as an admissions consultant for the New York firm Ivy Coach. In 2008, she was named a Fulbright recipient to the Freie Universitaet in Berlin, Germany where she completed her first book, “Hermann Hesse and August Strindberg: Pan Nordic Ties to the East and the Search for a Common Mythology.” Additionally, she has studied literature at Yale, Heidelberg Universitaet (Germany), and Stockholms Universitet (Sweden). In 2017 she also obtained a Graduate Performance Degree in Voice from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore where she studied with renowned soprano Phyllis Bryn-Julson.

In her spare time, she has volunteered as co-director of one of the largest animal rescue organizations in the Washington, DC area, Friends of Rabbits, as well as performed with various regional theaters throughout the Maryland, DC, and Virginia area and in Europe.

In the early 90’s she sang a leading role in the German premier of “Peter Pan” at the Graz Opera in Graz, Austria. Dr. Sundberg is the proud mother of a 24-year-old son who obtained a degree in Cognitive Science from the University of Pennsylvania. She resides in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia with her husband Mikael and their two rescued rabbits.

As a federally enrolled tribal member of the Caddo Nation of Oklahoma, she will spend her year giving voice to indigenous women, discussing current situations on tribal lands and reservations, and promoting awareness for Native issues all over the country.
